FBI Director Christopher Wray expressed on Friday support to the Lebanese army during a visit to Beirut, a statement released by the presidential palace in Baabda said. President Michel Aoun received Wray at Baabda Palace and told him that Lebanon has succeeded in fighting terror groups thanks to US support and that of friendly countries, said the statement. Wray in turn thanked Aoun for Lebanons efforts in ensuring security and stability for US citizens in its territory, it added. The meeting took place in the presence of US Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard and Lebanese caretaker Justice Minister Salim Jreissati. Washington has been a major supporter of Lebanons army, and has provided more than $1 billion in military assistance to Lebanon since 2006. The Lebanese army last year captured areas that were controlled by extremists along the eastern border with Syria.
