JEDDAH: Saudi Arabias King Salman inaugurated on Tuesday the Haramain High Speed Railway that connects the holy cities of Madinah and Makkah. At a ceremony in Jeddah, the King oversaw the services that the railway will offer passengers when it opens to the public next month. The 450 kilometer train line has five stations including King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City, as well as Makkah and Madinah. The network will carry 60 million passengers a year with a fleet of 35 trains containing 417 seats each. During the ceremony, a documentary was aired about the project, one of the largest of its kind in the region. Announcing the inauguration of the Haramain High Speed Rail, King Salman said: "We have put our trust in Allah, and we ask Allah to grant the success". "We thank Allah for the growth and prosperity in all fields in our country, and we thank Allah Almighty for His grace.. Thank you," the King added. Then, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques inaugurated the first Jeddah-Madinah journey, and was seen off by a number of top Saudi officials.  The king then arrived in Madinah from Jeddah by the Haramain High Speed Rail, where his royal highness was recieved by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.  Saudi Transport Minister Nabil Al-Amoudi commended the King’s approach to national transport projects, saying that they act as a trigger for everyone to put in their utmost effort to fulfill the expectations of the Kingdom’s leadership.  - @KingSalman inaugurated the Al-#Haramain Express train at a ceremony in #Jeddahhttps://t.co/wc50pVHPKgpic.twitter.com/cedStBLswB — Arab News (@arabnews) September 25, 2018   In the speech he delivered, Al-Amoudi affirmed that Saudi Arabia was honored to serve Muslim pilgrims since the era of the Kingdoms founder King Abdulaziz, till the current era of King Salman, who set a comprehensive plan to double efforts to achieve his directives with regard to comfort of the pilgrims and Umrah performers. "Your directives aim to harness all potentials to serve the guests of Allah in accordance with the ambitious national vision 2030, including basic transportation services through major projects facilitating the convenience of pilgrims and Umrah performers. The journey between Makkah and Madinah has become closer and easier than ever before. In conjunction with the 88th National Day, this great project is only a confirmation of the Kingdoms commitment to serve Islam and Muslims," he said. "I am honored to announce the inauguration by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques of Haramain High Speed Rail. We are proud and honored to transport the guests of Allah, citizens and expatriates on this land," Al-Amoudi added.  He also said that a project of its kind would consolidate the Saudi Arabia’s status by turning it into an international logistics center that connect three continents.
