JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia is taking all measures to promote and protect human rights, including children’s rights, said Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, chairman of the Kingdom’s Human Rights Commission (HRC). Al-Aiban was speaking at a session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in Geneva, reported SPA. He said Saudi Arabia is taking all measures in accordance with the principles of Islamic law, which prohibits and criminalizes the violation of rights. Under the current leadership, the HRC chairman said, Saudi Arabia has adopted a number of procedures aimed at protecting human rights and children’s rights. Al-Aiban also condemned the activities of the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists, which is reportedly recruiting child soldiers. He said by doing so the Houthis are putting innocent children in harm’s way. He told the CRC that one-third of the Houthi militia comprised children. “Due to a lack of education and poverty in Yemen, the Houthi militias are forcing Yemeni children to join armed conflicts,” he said. He affirmed that all military operations implemented by the Arab coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen are in accordance with the provisions of the international humanitarian law.
