Bahrains Ministry of Industry and Commerce provided on Monday 10 investment opportunities in the field of e-commerce and technology services to entrepreneurs and those interested in investing in emerging sectors. The ministry also focused during “Bahrain Tech Week 2018” on the leading ideas in the field of technical transactions that grant sustainability for projects. The event is sponsored by the Kingdom’s Economic Development Board (EDB), which promotes investment in Bahrain. The forum offers a range of new investment opportunities in the field of e-commerce and Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The Ministry introduced the investment opportunities through workshops dedicated to e-commerce, in which it tackled many topics related to e-commerce and ICT. These included investment opportunities, a market to rent home products through web applications and computer programs enhanced through artificial intelligence for audio or text conversations in order to serve customers. Investment opportunities also included the introduction of e-platforms for influential individuals through social media, enhanced storage reality solutions, cloud computing services, applications related to womens health, 3D scanners for the online clothing industry, online commodity price discovery, telemedicine healthcare and applications for detecting fraudulent e-commerce transactions. The event targeted a number of participants from the emerging categories of entrepreneurs, specialists and those interested in the development of emerging business groups. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism explained that provision of investment opportunities in the field of e-commerce and ICT is part of its efforts to support the business sectors approach to adopting e-commerce and its various applications in all fields. Bahrain’s government is seeking to raise the proportion of e-commerce to 20 percent by 2020 from about five percent currently, according to official figures. The figures indicated that the value of e-commerce transactions in Bahrain, according to the latest statistics dating to 2016, amounted to $967.9 million (BD 364.9 million) while about 167 e-commerce licenses were granted from the beginning of 2017 until November of the same year.
