The Saudi cabinet reiterated on Tuesday the centrality of the Palestinian cause for the Arab and Muslim nations. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet meeting that was held in Riyadh. The ministers underlined the Arab and Muslim identity of the holy city of Jerusalem and the need to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict by implementing the 2002 Arab peace initiative. King Salman briefed the cabinet on the details of his telephone call with US President Donald Trump during which they highlighted the unique ties that bind their countries. The ministers, for their part, hailed King Salman on his speech that he delivered during the inauguration of a number of projects in the city of Madinah. He stressed the Kingdom’s keenness, since its establishment, on serving the holy city of Makkah and Madinah and their Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. They also praised him for inaugurating the Haramain high-speed rail project in line with Vision 2030, whose many goals include improving services to pilgrims. In addition, the cabinet lauded King Salman for ordering a donation of $200 million to the Central Bank of Yemen. The sum will be added to the donation of $3 billion that was previously presented to Yemen by the Kingdom earlier this year. The new donation aims to alleviate the economic burdens off the Yemeni people and reflects the Kingdom’s constant support for its neighbor. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, then briefed the ministers on the details of his visit on Sunday to Kuwait and his talks with Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.
