LAS VEGAS: Hassan Al-Sheikh, a member of the Saudi Arabia national bowling team, finished 31st out of 68 participants from around the world on the first day of the 54th World Single Championship taking place in the US city of Las Vegas. He scored a total of 1,417 points across the eight of the 24 games each contestant has to play in the preliminary rounds that qualify the best 24 participants to the final rounds. Mohammed Janahi, coach of the Saudi national bowling team, said that the tournament was only open to the very best across the globe and that the presence of Hassan Al-Sheikh among them confirmed the Saudi athlete’s arrival on the world stage. Janahi said: “Al-Sheikh’s performance during his first two games was remarkable and went according to what was planned. We plan on advancing progressively, since each stage of the competition includes eight games. This puts a lot of pressure on the player and requires a great effort. Our chances of qualification are big, and Al-Sheikh has the qualities that will help him reach the final rounds.”
