Saudi Ambassador to the United States Prince Khalid bin Salman noted on Tuesday the Iran-backed Houthi militias’ agreement to discuss handing some control of Yemen’s Hodeidah port to the United Nations. He tweeted: “This comes as they are on the verge of being pushed out by force.” This is “proof that only consistent pressure on the Iran backed militia will lead to a political settlement,” he added. Efforts are underway to bring together warring parties in Yemen to peace consultations that are scheduled for Sweden in early December. UN special envoy Martin Griffiths has been holding talks with legitimate government officials and the Houthis as part of these efforts.
