JEDDAH: The Regional Laboratory and Blood Bank in the Eastern Province has become the first laboratory in the region to receive accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This was announced following a two-day visit of a CAP delegation. Dr. Abdullah Matar Al-Otaibi, director of laboratories and blood banks in the health department, expressed his happiness over this achievement. He said the joint efforts of all stakeholders and the government’s generous support made this achievement possible. Saudi Arabia is making huge efforts to revolutionize its health sector. Introducing digital health technologies is also part of the plans to give the health sector a boost. A large part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 reform plan focuses on health issues. The Kingdom has introduced an app called “Mawid,” which is a centralized system that enables patients to book appointments in primary health care centers in coordination with the relevant department. Through the app, patients can book, amend or cancel their appointments at any hospital to which they were referred, and rate the quality of services provided.
