The Palestinian Authority Foreign Ministry denounced on Monday the international community’s way of dealing with the crimes perpetrated by Israeli forces and settlers. “It is unacceptable for the international community to only issue condemnation statements, regardless how tough they are, to express its position on the crimes committed by the occupation power and the settler terrorist militias,” it said in a statement. It said that settlers, who are protected by the Israeli army, have carried out dozens of “incursions” in various parts of the West Bank and Jerusalem. According to the ministry, the “incursions” included visits by Jews to the Temple Mount, Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus and the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. “These recurring incursions demand the attention of international human rights organizations and the countries that signed the Geneva Conventions,” the PA statement said. “These incursions reflect aforethought Israeli government decisions to seize more Palestinian lands or to take control or change the identity or divide several Palestinian historical and religions sites.” The statement was issued hours after the outbreak of violent clashes in the vicinity of the Joseph’s Tomb after settlers stormed the area. “The repeated and sequential invasions on Joseph’s Tomb and the intensive protection of the occupation army require taking careful note of the nature of the settlement schemes that target the city of Nablus and its surroundings,” the foreign ministry stressed. It added that “storming the cities of Halhul and As Samu is a sign that the racist settlement movement has expanded the concept and location of the religious city of Hebron for Jews to include other nearby sites, and it is considered a direct threat that needs to be strongly confronted.” Dozens of Palestinian youths suffered from tear gas inhalation during clashes, and one Palestinian was injured. The Health Ministry said in a statement that a civilian was hit by rubber bullets in the head and treated at the public Rafidia Hospital in Nablus. Medics said they had treated dozens of young people, who suffocated after inhaling tear gas. Confrontations were triggered when Israeli settlers began performing Jewish religious rituals in Joseph’s Tomb, under the tight security of Israeli forces. The forces fired rubber-coated steel bullets, tear-gas bombs and stun grenades at the youth. The Israeli military allows settlers to visit as part of organized pilgrimages, despite the site being located in Area “A” where the PA has full control, and prohibits Muslims from worshiping at the site.
