The Saudi-led Arab coalition welcomed on Monday the agreement reached last week between the legitimate Yemeni government and Iran-backed Houthi militias on the port city of Hodeidah. The agreement was sponsored by the United Nations through the efforts of the Saudi leadership and coalition states, alliance spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki told a press conference in Riyadh. He highlighted the efforts of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister of Defense, in pushing for reaching the agreement between the two warring parties in Yemen. The coalition hailed the government for positively approaching the Sweden consultations. The efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia and the coalition states prove to the entire world their keenness on restoring security and stability in Yemen and the region, which will achieve security and stability in the world, Maliki stressed. The Sweden deal, he continued, was a step forward towards restoring the authority of the legitimate government in Yemen. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of the Houthis respecting the agreement, hoping that they will not violate it as they have done to previous ceasefires. This, he said, represents a real test to the international community in ensuring that the truce is respected. The Arab coalition supports all efforts to ensure the success of the deal, hoping that it would pave the way for building trust between the warring parties and continuing negotiations on broader issues.
