DUBAI: US rapper Cardi B chose a daring gown by Beirut-based fashion house Ashi Studio for her latest music video — and it’s a dress to remember. In the video, the artist can be seen breastfeeding her baby girl Kulture, who was born in July, while wearing a black, floor-length gown by Ashi Studio’s Saudi-born founder, Mohammed Ashi. The fishtail dress hails from the label’s autumn/winter 2018-19 couture collection and was chosen as the centerpiece outfit for Cardi B’s music video for her latest single, “Money.”It’s been a big year for the New York-born rapper, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, who was just nominated for five awards at the upcoming 2019 Grammys. Cardi B is up for Album of the Year for “Invasion of Privacy” and Record of the Year for “I Like It,” as well as nomination nods for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, for “Be Careful,” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her collaboration with Maroon 5, “Girls Like You.” While she is flying high in her career, she is facing troubles at home, however, and just reportedly split with her husband after a little more than a year of marriage. The rapper’s husband, whose stage name is Offset, became the target of Internet outrage after he interrupted her set at the Rolling Loud Festival in Los Angeles on Dec. 15 and asked her to get back together with him after an alleged extra-marital affair. Cardi B said no, but took to Instagram a day later to say that she wished people wouldn’t bash her daughter’s father, whom she married in September 2017. On the flip side, it’s been a stellar year for the fashion house behind the daring dress in Cardi B’s new video, as Ashi Studio has dressed some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. Ashi Studio designed gowns for supermodel Heidi Klum and Cardi B for their appearances at the 2018 Grammy Awards, with Klum going for a stunning sheer dress and Cardi B turning heads in a custom-made gown, which featured a high-to-low hem, full off-the-shoulder sleeves and multiple, voluminous layers. The Arab designer’s garments have been worn by countless A-listers in the past, including Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, Demi Lovato, Fergie and Ava DuVernay. Perhaps his biggest fashion score, however, came at the beginning of December when the designer dressed none other than Beyoncé for a Dec. 2 concert in Johannesburg that honored the life of Nelson Mandela. The superstar wore a ruffled pink dress, with a long train and voluminous, tiered skirt on stage.
