Former Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi revealed on Wednesday details of the incident that involved the storming of his house by the guards of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi. He said in a statement that the guards ordered the closure of the complex that includes the house that Abadi used to occupy when he served as premier. The complex is located in Baghdads Green Zone where Abadi had two homes. Abadi then promptly contacted Abdul Mahdi to inquire about the development and his office informed him that they will get back to him, “but they never did.” He stressed that he did not seek to escalate the situation, adding that it was handled in a peaceful way. He added that he was working on handing back to the state the possessions and houses that he acquired during his tenure as prime minister. He did not, however, hide his surprise from the incident. “Abdul Mahdi did indeed contact us and he also voiced his rejection of such actions, which he said took place without his knowledge,” revealed Abadi. He underlined the need to follow proper procedures in dealing with state property and to refrain from adopting suspicious actions in order to achieve political gains. He urged against exploiting this incident in order to achieve such gains and to mislead the public.
