Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Jaber expressed on Saturday his surprise at the United Nations agencies’ ongoing overlooking of the crimes committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militias. He said many officials from the Saudi-led Arab coalition had previously informed senior UN officials of the violations by the militias against aid deliveries in Yemen. He accused them of robbing the aid and employing them for their war effort. Moreover, Jaber stated that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait had deposited at the United Nations $1.25 billion for the humanitarian response plan in Yemen. "We have informed UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock and the Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations, in Yemen, Lise Grande, that only 40 percent of those funds have been spent, in areas under the control of the Houthi militias,” he remarked. He warned that the ongoing silence over the Houthi crimes will only encourage their malicious behavior. He therefore urged UN agencies to speak out about the violations and reveal the facts about the Houthis’ abhorrent practices.
