At least 1,066 expats, most of them of Arab and Asian origins, were arrested in a sweep by the police over the first 23 days of the year The Ministry of Manpower also announced that 554 expats were deported – 490 for labor law violations and 64 for illegal entry into the country DUBAI: More than 1,000 expats working in Oman have been arrested in January for violating the country’s labor laws as well as being involved in criminal activity, national daily Times of Oman reported, citing figures released by the Ministry of Manpower and Royal Oman Police showed. At least 1,066 expats, most of them of Arab and Asian origins, were arrested in a sweep by the police over the first 23 days of the year. The Ministry of Manpower also announced that 554 expats were deported – 490 for labor law violations and 64 for illegal entry into the country. Of the 1,066, 68 were women arrested for “committing acts contrary to public morals” according the Royal Oman Police.
