Former Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin AbdulAziz said he was surprised when one of his sons called him to to tell him that Cameron was looking for his assistance Cameron said that Britain had information that Obama was not serious about doing anything against Bashar Assad or his chemical weapons. RIYADH: A Saudi official has revealed that former British Prime Minister David Cameron mediated between the Kingdom and the former American President, Barack Obama, in a bid to push the latter to take action against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s use of chemical weapons against civilians. Former Saudi intelligence chief, former secretary general of the National Security Council and former ambassador to the United States for more than 22 years, Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin AbdulAziz, said he was surprised when one of his sons called him to tell him that Cameron visited one of his farms outside London, near Oxford, and asked to meet one of his sons and deliver a message to him stating that Britain had information that Obama was not serious about doing anything against Bashar Assad or his chemical weapons. In an interview with Independent Arabia, the Saudi official spoke of the former American administration’s evasiveness and said Obama was negotiating with the Iranians to finalize the nuclear deal and it was because of this that he did not make any serious moves against Syria. According to Prince Bandar bin Sultan, Russian President Vladimir Putin had no intention to interfere in Syria and did not desire to confront America, Britain, Germany, or France. Nor did he want to confront major Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Jordan and regional countries like Turkey. Moscow’s position was not to confront any of these, but decided to take action when it realized the Obama administration’s inaction. On David Cameron’s visit to Prince Bandar bin Sultan’s farm in Glympton, Bandar said: “Former British Prime Minister David Cameron passed by and asked for one of my sons. He went outside and was surprised to see Cameron. “They went to a small cottage by a lake in front of the house. He was without bodyguards and my son shook his hand. Cameron asked my son to go for a walk and then asked him: ‘Is there a way to contact your father?’ He said: ‘Yes, why?’ Cameron continued: ‘I want you to tell him that Obama is not serious in Syria, and he will not do anything. We’ve tried with the French and there have been great efforts. Obama refuses to listen to us. If it’s possible for Saudi Arabia to make some effort, action may be taken.’ My son told him: ‘Mr. Prime Minister, my father does not involve us in his work. I do not promise you to deliver anything because we do not interfere.’ My son told me what happened and I told him the best thing you did is that you told him you will not tell me and that you do not interfere in my work. I immediately told King Abdullah and he said this was not possible. I told him this is what my son told me now.” Independent Arabia contacted former British Prime Minister David Cameron’s office and asked for a comment. The office confirmed the meeting between Cameron and one of Prince Bandar’s sons in Glympton, but did not comment on the details of what was said. The email response from the Cameron’s office confirmed the prince and Cameron met several times when he was prime minister.
