Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, capped on Sunday his official visit to Pakistan by signing numerous agreements that will boost ties with Islamabad. He stressed his pleasure at holding his first official visit to the country, describing it as a “friendly and dear nation to the Saudi leadership and people.” He made his remarks during a meeting for the Saudi-Pakistani coordination council that was held at the presidential palace in Islamabad. The Crown Prince had arrived in Islamabad earlier on Sunday. He was received at the airport by Prime Minister Imran Khan. “Pakistan has a bright future ahead of it through its great leadership,” continued Prince Mohammed, noting the country’s 5 percent growth rate. “This will make it a powerful country in the near future and we would like to be a part of that,” he stated. He added that Riyadh and Islamabad signed 20 billion dollars worth of agreements, saying that his country welcomes Pakistan in all economic, political and security fields. “We have complete faith that Pakistan and our region will have a great future. We believe in this region, which is why we are investing in it,” he noted. Saudi and Pakistani officials signed during the meeting seven agreements on technical cooperation, supplying crude oil and petroleum products, financing power generation projects in Pakistan and studying investment opportunities in the refining and petrochemical sectors in Pakistan. The deals also covered the mineral resources and renewable energy fields. The Crown Prince’s visit comes at the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his keenness on bolstering Saudi-Pakistani ties in all fields. His visit is part of an Asian tour that will see him head to India and China.
