JEDDAH: Models of an oil pipeline and water pump went on display for visitors to the Saudi Falconry Festival in Turaif. The 1,664-kilometer Trans-Arabia Pipeline had been used up until four years ago in the Northern Border region to transport crude oil from Saudi Arabia to Europe and the US. A model of a water pump, nicknamed “Al-Difa’a” by Turaif residents, was also on show at the festival. The actual pump was demolished 10 years ago because of the expansion of asphalting works. The exhibition room featured pictures that showed construction work on the pipeline. Last November, King Salman inaugurated a multibillion-dollar project aimed at boosting the Kingdom’s mining infrastructure, and providing thousands of jobs to locals in the northern region of the country. Waad Al-Shamal, a new industrial city being built along the northern border, was officially inaugurated in Turaif by the king as he concluded a multi-day tour in the area.
