Egyptian authorities have arrested six people over a deadly crash this week at downtown Cairos main train station. The countrys top prosecutor ordered late Thursday that those arrested — two train conductors, their aides and two other rail workers — remain in custody for four more days pending further investigation. Egypts Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Thursday the death toll from the crash rose to 22. State TV had said on Wednesday that 25 people died in the crash, but the health minister revised the toll down to 20 later in the day and said 43 people were injured. Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek earlier said the investigation determined the accident was triggered by a brawl between two conductors. He said one conductor failed to put the brakes on before leaving the locomotive, unleashed the speeding, unmanned engine which then crashed into a concrete barrier at the Ramses station, setting of a huge explosion and fire. Transportation Minister Hisham Arafat resigned after the accident. Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker will temporarily head the transport ministry, a cabinet source said on Wednesday.
