Yemen’s Foreign Minister Khaled al-Yamani has called on Iran to abide by the principles of The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and end its support to Houthi militias. In his address to the 46th OIC Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi on Friday, Yamani urged the Iranian regime to stop funding the Houthis and put an end to the transfer of weapons to them. Yamani said the insurgents have been procrastinating in the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement that was struck between the warring sides in the Swedish capital in December. He accused the Houthis of refusing to withdraw from Hodeidah in order to open a humanitarian corridor. He also refused to admit failure in the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement “because failure will bring us back to the battleground in Hodeidah and will undermine the momentum” created by the December deal “and the international support to resolve the Yemeni crisis.” The Foreign Minister thanked all countries that have made pledges for humanitarian assistance in 2019. Earlier this week, the United Nations garnered $2.6 billion for humanitarian relief in Yemen, with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates topping the donors’ list. The Kingdom and UAE pledged $500 million each, while Kuwait pledged $250 million at the donors conference in Geneva. Yamani mainly thanked Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait for their pledges. He also called on the international community not to ignore the reasons behind Yemen’s humanitarian catastrophe. The Foreign Minister said the Houthis have been looting humanitarian aid to fund their war against the legitimacy and to expand their power in areas falling under their control.
