DAMMAM: Brig. Gen. Al-Subaie, spokesman for the joint drill Gulf Shield 10, said the exercise was developing the joint military capability of GCC countries. Al-Subaie, at a press conference on Thursday in Jubail, said Saudi armed forces and security sectors were participating in the drill, along with land, air and sea forces from GCC countries. Al-Subaie said such maneuvers aimed to promote cooperation and exchange expertise among forces of Saudi Arabia and GCC countries. The drill covered developing skills, activating joint work and optimizing the use of available resources, he said. Gulf Shield 10 is one of the largest and most-advanced exercises. It is part of the comprehensive strategic vision of the Saudi Defense Ministry, given its capacity to benefit from expertise and promote military and security readiness in different situations, and to preserve security and safety in the Arab Gulf and the world. The first phase of the drill, the academic training phase, witnessed the arrival of the forces by land, air and sea, along with lectures that targeted the participating forces. The second phase was the command center drill; it focused on training commanders to use simulators and manage military operations. The third phase consisted of a joint field training with live ammunition, to be followed by the closing ceremony. Al-Subaie said that such joint maneuvers train forces in fighting a real international enemy, and that officers and leaders taking part are developing the joint military capability of GCC countries.
