ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi’s former police chief Mohammed Khalfan Al-Romaithi announced he was officially running for president of the Asian Football Confederation on Thursday, vowing to “make football fair.” “Football in Asia is failing,” Romaithi told reporters at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. “This power has been abused to the disadvantages of our people,” he said. “Asia deserves better.” Romaithi, whose campaign slogan is “Make football fair,” promised $2 million in support for each Asian national football federation annually and said he would focus on encouraging women to join the world of football. The Emirati will run against incumbent Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa of Bahrain and Qatar’s Saud Al-Muhannadi in the Asian federation’s April 6 election.
