US President Donald Trump’s administration continues diplomatic efforts between Palestinians and Israelis, said Trumps Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt in a closed-door meeting with members of the Security Council in New York on Friday. The US peace plan is expected to be released after the Israeli elections on April 9 and the formation of the new government, Greenblatt noted. He stressed that the future US peace plan would be “very detailed” when released, but he gave no details in the meeting, diplomats said. “There were no details,” Kuwaiti Ambassador Mansour al-Otaibi told reporters after the meeting. “There was a discussion from our side about the plan.” Greenblatt, who is working on the plan with both Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and David Friedman, US ambassador to Israel, explained that the plan would be detailed in its political and economic dimensions. “We know Palestinians and Israelis’ aspirations, and we are working in this framework," he said. “When our vision becomes public, we will not want to implement it alone,” a diplomat quoted him as saying. The Quartet (United States, Russia, European Union, and United Nations) will also play a role in its implementation, Greenblatt added, according to the diplomat. Countries, such as Kuwait, Indonesia, and China expressed regret for not having extra elements to support the discussions. It was noted that the majority of the Security Council’s member states, including the Europeans, were represented by low-level diplomats instead of their permanent representatives. “Most of what Greenblatt said is that the administrations efforts on the peace plan are ongoing,” one diplomat told Asharq Al-Awsat. “It is an important and detailed plan that might not please both sides but offers a clear plan for an achievable peace, with many benefits to both sides, especially for Palestinians,” the diplomat quoted the US envoy as saying. Another diplomat said that "the most important thing in what Greenblatt states was revealing the date of the plan’s announcement, which is immediately after the Israeli elections.” He said Greenblatt also requested the Security Council’s support for the US plan.
