The Saudi Arabian Football Federation received on Monday a letter from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) canceling the monopoly of the beIN SPORTS network of the broadcast of Asian tournaments in Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency. The decision was based on a complaint filed by the Kingdom against the network’s serious legal and systemic violations and its inability to obtain the necessary licenses to fulfill its obligations to broadcast the AFC competitions to followers and viewers in the Kingdom. Accordingly, a decision was taken to cancel the monopoly of all AFC competitions by beIN SPORTS. These matches will be gradually broadcast in the Kingdom through the AFC platforms, starting from the Saudi Al Hilal and Qatari Al-Dahil match scheduled for Tuesday. The Kingdom will provide the broadcast crew of commentators and analysts and work has started on the necessary technical arrangements. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation hailed the AFC’s decision, calling on all international federations to take similar measures that contribute to maintaining the dissemination of the game and providing it to viewers away from abuse for political purposes. The Saudi Federation is keen on working with rights holders and official bodies to provide legal platforms to allow Saudi viewers and expatriates to enjoy sports competitions away from manipulation.
