Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid And Relief Center (KSRelief) Dr. Abdullah al-Rabeeah highlighted Saudi Arabia’s medical and humanitarian efforts. Addressing the Medical International Conference held in Santiago, Chile, he praised medical and scientific development in the Kingdom and the ambitious transformation witnessed through its Vision 2030. The conference was attended by more than 650 senior doctors from south and north America, Europe, Asia and Africa, representing 57 countries. The Kingdom is among the world’s top countries in humanitarian action, Rabeeah stressed. It has provided aid for more than 79 countries and set up KSRelief, a humanitarian center that was established through an initiative by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. The Center has provided aid for up to 44 countries since its establishment in May 2015. Yemen is among the top beneficiaries with 61.37 percent of relief aid. Rabeeah explained that KSRelief was able to reach all Yemeni areas without exception and sometimes in spite of a siege imposed by the Iran-backed Houthi militias, such as in the Taiz region. It resorted to cattle to transport oxygen tanks to hospitals and cooperated with the Saudi-led coalition to airdrop medical and food over inaccessible areas. The Kingdom had undertaken a number of initiatives, he said, including a program to rehabilitate child soldiers recruited by the Houthis, and the Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance (MASAM) in Yemen, which, as of March, has removed more than 50,000 mines. He also said there are plans to establish a center to provide prosthetic limbs to Yemenis who have been injured by Houthi mines. Rabeeah also talked about Saudi Arabia’s contributions to provide aid for countries in need through implementing qualitative programs, such as KSRelief’s handling of multiple cases of conjoined twins over the years.
