DUBAI: Complaints involving breaches of labor laws in Oman dropped significantly in the last four years, the daily Times of Oman said. According to the report, the General Federation of Oman Trade Union (GFOTU), established in 2014, received 479 complaints and cases in 2018 – a 14 percent decrease from 558 in 2017. The drop could be associated with several factors, including the establishment of GFOTU, founded “to represent Oman’s workers before official authorities and local, regional and international forums.” Another reason is the heightened inspection trips by the federation, which has more than tripled its field visits to companies from 32 in 2015 to 109 in 2018. “It is important indeed to solve employee problems quickly, because we need a skilled workforce,” Nabhan Al-Batashi, chairman of GFOTU, said.
