The decision of US President Donald Trump to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights drew reactions from several countries, amid warnings that his annoucement could threaten stability and peace in the region. During a session chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh on Tuesday, the Saudi Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom’s total rejection and denunciation of the declaration issued by the US Administration to recognize Israels sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The Cabinet said the area is an occupied Syrian Arab land. The Saudi government also said the US decision would have negative effects on the peace process in the Middle East, and the security and stability of the region. The UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation also issued statements rejecting Washington’s declaration. Ambassadors from the five EU members of the UN Security Council - France, Germany, Britain, Poland and Belgium - rejected Trump’s decision and expressed "strong concerns" over its consequences. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement: “The US move will definitely undermine the possibility of reaching a just and comprehensive peace in the region.” Lebanese President Michel Aoun also lashed out at Trump’s decision, calling it a “black day” for the Arab world.
