The Arab quartet committee on Iranian interventions expressed deep concerns about Tehran’s methods in inciting sectarian violence in Arab states, including its support and arming of terrorist militias in some countries, which leads to chaos and instability in the region that threatens Arab national security. The quartet committee, comprising of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt as well as the Secretary-General of the Arab League, held its meeting here on the sidelines of the preparatory meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers ahead of the Arab Summit in its 30th ordinary session. The four countries condemned provocative visits and statements of Iranian officials concerning the three occupied islands of the United Arab Emirates: Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa, including the visit of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to Abu Musa Island on January 30, 2018. The committee issued a statement condemning Tehran’s continued interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs and its support of terrorism, training and harboring terrorists, as well as igniting sectarian strife. The meeting also denounced Iran’s issuance of hostile statements at various levels in order to destabilize the security and stability of the region and create terrorist groups in Bahrain and providing them funds and training from the IRGC, Ahlul al-Haq brigades and Hezbollah. The committee stressed its support to Bahrain and condemned the continued Iranian and Turkish interference in the Syrian crisis and the serious repercussions it would have on Syrias future, sovereignty, security, stability, national unity and territorial integrity. The four countries also condemned Tehran’s direct threats to the international navigation in the Arabian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Red Sea, including the recent targeting of a Saudi oil tanker in Bab el-Mandeb Strait, in a clear violation of international laws. The committee debated the course of Arab relations with Tehran and ways to deal with Tehran’s interference in the internal affairs of the Arab States.
