KAZAN: The secretary-general of the Muslim World League (MWL) and the grand mufti of Tatarstan signed an agreement on Tuesday to cooperate in the dissemination of moderate Islam and its principles of tolerance and coexistence. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa and Grand Mufti Kamil Samee Allah Iskandar, who signed on behalf of the Tatar Religious Administration of Muslims, agreed to exchange expertise to achieve common objectives in moderate religious and intellectual issues. The two parties will promote Islamic principles and moderation, and combat extremism and Islamophobia. The agreement is based on the MWL’s role in promoting Islam and building bridges between cultures, religions and ethnic groups, and the administration’s mission to teach Tatar Muslims about their religion and promote the culture of moderate Islam, under the umbrella of the Russian state. The two parties will also coordinate teaching and academic research, and organize competitions to memorize and recite the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah. Earlier, Al-Issa met Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, who praised the MWL’s promotion of moderate Islam.
