Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Amr Talaat said technology doesn’t kill job opportunities as some say in light of the fourth industrial revolution. In his remarks during a technological summit in Cairo on Sunday, Talaat explained that technology doesn’t eliminate human opportunities, but instead, it gives life a better, faster and easier future. Development of human skills must be compatible with the technological revolution, he stressed. He pointed out that e-commerce has ended about 500,000 jobs in the French retail sector during the past few years, but in return, it created a 1.2 million other jobs for programmers, web designers and e-security and data entry experts. While the Internet, mass chain, virtual reality, and technology, in general, seem to eliminate thousands of jobs in the coming period, Talaat said that the technological revolution will create thousands of opportunities in return. He explained that current and future generations should develop their skills to be able to top deals with future jobs, describing them as “smart jobs.” “Seventy-five percent of the jobs, that will be taken by alpha generation, have not yet been created,” he said, noting that many other jobs will soon disappear. He said his ministry has been working in this regard on four main pillars. The first is to build technologically developed human skills. The second focuses on digital transformation. The third is providing a suitable legislative system for the technological revolution and the fourth is to develop the country’s information infrastructure. On the other hand, Egypts Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar affirmed the Egyptian government’s keenness to encourage the production and manufacture of electric cars in the country. He said this represents the future of the world’s automotive industry, pointing to the importance of keeping pace with the current global trends to shift towards using eco-friendly cars.
