Saudi Arabia keen to promote ties with Iraq

RIYADH: Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi left Jeddah on Friday following his two-day visit to the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported. He was seen off at King Abdul Aziz International Airport by Prince Mishaal bin Majid, governor of Jeddah, and a number of officials. The Iraqi delegation had earlier held talks in Riyadh with Saudi Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Khalid Al-Falih and Commerce and Investment Minister Dr. Majid Al-Qassabi. The talks focused on aspects of upgrading investment and economic relations between the two countries. SPA Riyadh Al-Falih confirmed Saudi Arabia’s keenness to promote relations with Iraq. He said that 13 agreements and memorandums of understanding had been signed during the prime minister’s visit. These covered several fields, including industry, mineral resources, oil and gas and electric power. Iraqi Foreign Affairs Mohammed Ali Al-Hakim, meanwhile, met Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir. They discussed regional and international developments. Mahdi arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday, holding talks with King Salman and later meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The prime minister and his delegation performed Umrah in Makkah on Thursday.
