Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman slammed Iran on Wednesday for its role in feeding sectarianism and backing militias in the region. Speaking at the eighth Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS), Prince Khalid expressed “grave concern at the situation in the Middle East, which has suffered and continues to suffer from tragic events.” “As Saudi Arabia continues its efforts to achieve security and stability in the region … the Iranian regime has stuck to backing extremism and terrorism, and feeding sectarianism and division,” he said. “We have to choose between the chaos that Iran spreads, and stability, security and development,” he told the conference. “Iran is spreading chaos in the region through destruction and bloodshed, and by supporting Hezbollah and the Houthis,” the Saudi Deputy Defense Minister said. He stressed that Riyadh is committed to combating terrorism. “We must fight all sources of financing terrorism, and strengthen anti-money laundering efforts.”
