An Austrian state plans to introduce new rules dubbed "Ten Commandments of Immigration" targeting asylum seekers. The proposal was submitted by Gottfried Waldhäusl, specializing in asylum affairs in Lower Austria, and member of the right-wing populist Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), on Monday in the city of Sankt Pölten. According to Waldhäusl, these commandments include "learning German," "adhering to Austrian laws," "resolving conflicts non-violently," and "showing gratitude to Austria," the German News Agency reported. In a press conference, Waldhäusl stressed that those who do not comply with these rules will not be punished. "The commandments are set for a good purpose. We offer protection and needs to these individuals for a while, and we are expecting some gratitude in return, "he said, noting that as a first step, every asylum seeker must be introduced to the Austrian lifestyle. Last year, Waldhäusl was criticized after establishing a fenced-off controlled refugee facility. Teenagers were not allowed to leave it without chaperons. Following criticism by the refugee minors prosecutor, Governor of Lower Austria Johanna Mikl-Leitner moved the minors to another center. Foreigners and big families in Austria are facing a cut in social benefits under provisions passed by the ruling right-wing parties. Although the minimum standard social benefits are 885 euros ($990) per month, as of June, foreigners will receive a minimum of 300 euros, unless they demonstrate having medium skills in German or advanced skills in English. Parents will receive 221 with 133 euros for their first and second children, respectively, and only 44 euros for each further child. This new rule particularly affects immigrants who are more likely to have children than the Austrians.
