Jordan’s King Abdullah II held a series of political and media meetings in which he relayed total rejection towards attempts to throw shade at the kingdom’s position from the Palestinian cause and its Hashemite custodianship of Jerusalem holy sites. He urged the prominent figures he met nationwide to ward off all attempts to question the kingdom’s positions. At the meetings, King Abdullah did not try to mask his anger towards the constant lobs of doubt cast against his country’s political stances, and accused a number of media hosts, politicians, and lawmakers of riding a wave of distemper. He called on facing these skeptics who are seeking to downplay Jordan’s steadfast commitment to finding a fair settlement to the Palestinian cause. Insider sources who attended meetings, speaking under the conditions of anonymity, told Asharq Al-Awsat that King Abdullah urged taking advantage of hurdles facing Israeli elections by boosting Jordanian regional and international efforts for garnering further support for upholding al-Quds’ historic status and the Palestinian cause. These statements come a few days after Jordan had slammed Israel over a raid of Al Aqsa Mosque by settlers. On another note, the King called for overcoming baseless fears of a naturalization project of Palestinians being cooked up for Jordan. He pointed out that it was impossible to achieve such goals in the face of the firm will of the Jordanian position and its ability to win support for the two-state solution in accordance with international conventions and the Arab peace initiative. As for internal affairs, the monarch extolled Jordan’s strength in overcoming challenges it faced, stressing his confidence in the people’s awareness, high morale and ability to achieve. He stressed the need to improve economic and living conditions for citizens, reducing poverty and unemployment rates, attracting foreign investment, and empowering of young people. King Abdullah underscored that improving the economy figures high on his agenda.
