JEDDAH: Saudi Arabias Public Transport Authority (PTA) has won an award at the Global Public Transport Summit in Stockholm this week. The PTA won the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) award for its Wasl platform technology project during the UITP summit in Sweden from June 9-12. The award was received by PTA Chairman Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, who was a speaker at the summit’s opening session. In his address, Al-Rumaih reviewed the Kingdom’s achievements through its modern mega-projects, including the Haramain High-Speed Railway and the public transport projects in its cities. He said that public transport was a key factor in achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 as it had an important role in supporting economic and social growth as well as reducing road accidents. Al-Rumaih added that the Kingdom was keen to improve traffic safety, highlighting that a committee headed by the minister of health had been formed to play a significant role in reducing road accidents and deaths. The UITP General Assembly was held on the sidelines of the summit, with the PTA represented by Abdulmajeed Al-Tassan and Dr. Raed Al-Salihi. The General Assembly announced the new UITP president and approved UITP’s plans and programs for the next two years.
