A delegation from the Saudi Shura Council visiting Lebanon underlined historic relations and optimism over a flourishing tourism industry. The delegation, headed by Council member Saleh bin Manea Al-Khalewi, met with President Michel Aoun on Wednesday, in the presence of the head of the Lebanese-Saudi Parliamentary Friendship Committee, former Premier Tammam Salam, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Selim Jreissati, Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Bukhari, and the presidencys director general, Dr. Antoine Shukair. Aoun hailed the brotherly ties between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia and the initiatives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz in support of Lebanon and its people. He also highly valued the Kingdom’s recent decision to lift the travel ban on Lebanon, anticipating a great summer season with the arrival of Saudi tourists. The Lebanese president expressed hope that peace and harmony would prevail among Arab countries, stressing that differences in politics should not derail from the principles of the Arab League Charter. Khalewi, for his part, thanked Aoun for his warm welcome and conveyed the greetings of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and their wishes for success, peace and security for Lebanon. The Saudi official underscored the “historic relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples,” emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to support the Middle Eastern country. He also expressed the Saudi citizens’ happiness to visit Lebanon, which they regard as their second country. Khalewi also spoke about the Kingdom’s plans under Vision 2030 and welcomed any role that Lebanon could play in this regard. The delegation also met on Wednesday with Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
