RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Thursday took part in a high-level Arab conference to discuss a water security action plan for the region. Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli headed the Kingdom’s delegation at the 11th session of the Arab Water Ministerial Council being held at the Arab League headquarters in the Egyptian capital Cairo. The meeting was presided over by Palestinian Water Authority head, Mazen Ghoneim, with the participation of Arab ministers of water resources, environment and irrigation as well as heads of the delegations from  Arab states. Among items discussed was Israel’s stealing of Arab water in the occupied Syrian Golan, southern Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories. Another key aim of the session was to follow up on developments in supporting Iraq’s rights to preserve its water resources in the Tigris-Euphrates basin. The ministerial council session discussed the implementation of a strategic operational plan for water security in the Arab region to meet future challenges and requirements for sustainable development. Arab states with projects underway were urged to submit progress reports to the council’s technical and scientific advisory committee. Delegates also reviewed the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in relation to water.
