RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for African Affairs Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Qattan on Saturday received the US special envoy to Sudan, Donald Booth. The meeting, held in Qattan’s office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jeddah, involved talks about ways to support security and stability in Sudan. Al-Qattan assured the American envoy that the Saudi government and its people would continue to offer help to the northeast African country. Earlier, the deputy head of the transitional military council in Sudan, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, said that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt had provided Sudan with assistance without interfering in its affairs, and thanked the Kingdom and the UAE for their backing. In April, Saudi Arabia and the UAE granted Sudan $3 billion, which included a $500 million deposit into Sudan’s central bank in a bid to strengthen its financial position, ease pressure on the Sudanese pound and achieve greater stability in the exchange rate. The rest of the funding was toward food, medicine, and petroleum products, the Saudi Press Agency said.
