The Yemeni government has denounced the continuous flow of smuggled Iranian arms to the Houthi militia, calling on the international community to stand firmly against the Iranian regime that targets Yemenis and contributes to impeding political solution efforts. The condemnation was voiced by Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani as Houthi leaders announced acquiring in Sanaa new missiles and drones, most likely to be Iranian-made -- they were delivered to the group as parts then refurbished by experts from Iran and the Lebanese “Hezbollah”. Eryani noted that the regime in Iran continues to provide the militia with smuggled weapons and the military technology used in terrorist operations that target civilians and diminish efforts to resolve the crisis in a peaceful manner. The Yemeni minister revealed that comparing an arms exhibition organized by the Houthis this Sunday and another held at the beginning of 2019 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is proof of the source of the weapons acquired by the Houthis to kill Yemeni people. Eryani reiterated demands for the international community and permanent members in the Security Council to take more serious steps to halt Iranian violations resulting from importing arms to this militia. Last Sunday, pro-Houthi media broadcast videos of leaders from Sanaa showcasing new types of missiles and drones at a secret place in Sanaa. The video showed Head of the Houthis Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat, the second man in the group Abdul-Karim al-Houthi, Houthi head of government Abdul Aziz bin Habtoor, and Speaker Yahya al-Rai. The group pledged to conduct more terrorist attacks against civilians in Saudi Arabia and liberated regions ruled by the government. It claimed to have manufactured these weapons by itself despite affirmations by former military leaders that such weapons didn’t exist within the armament system before the Houthi coup at the end of 2014.
