Yemeni fishermen accused an Iranian vessel in the Red Sea of disrupting the activity of about 30,000 fishermen. They held on Tuesday their second protest, rejecting the presence of the Iranian ship, “Savez,” in Yemen’s territorial waters. They also pointed to the military exploitation of the vessel to smuggle weapons for the militias. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the fishermen appealed to the Yemeni government, Saudi-led coalition, the United Nations and the international community to immediately intervene and rescue them from this ship. They stressed the continued threat posed by the ship to the fishermen’s life and livelihood. They explained that the vessel has caused the deaths of several fishermen, disrupted the activity of 30,000 other fishermen and deprived thousands of families of their sole source of income. Savez supplies the militias with “mines of which they plant along Yemen’s west coast, it is the reason behind the proliferation of mines and booby-trapped boats, which have exacerbated the humanitarian situation in the coastal provinces.” Fishermen stressed in their statement on the importance of being protected from Savez’s damage. They said its permanent and unjustified presence in the territorial waters is being taken advantage of to support Houthis and provide them with various weapons. It also facilitates smuggling Iranian experts to help insurgents reorganize and run the drones, elongating the war in Yemen, carrying on attacks on populated areas, killing civilians in Saudi Arabia and threatening the security and safety of navigation in the Red Sea.
