Houthi militias have resorted to the indoctrination of women, mainly teachers, in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and other areas falling under their control since the start of the summer break. A Sanaa school principal revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the Houthi education ministry has forced school directors to provide it with data on the number of female teachers working in their institutions to force them into their so-called “cultural programs.” She said the teachers have expressed frustration at being compelled to undergo the indoctrination. “They have been forced to hear speeches made by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, which included incitement to violence and sectarianism.” One of the teachers warned in remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat that the insurgents “have been resorting to the mobilization of female instructors through dangerous confessional measures.” “The majority of educators reject the Houthi militias’ indoctrination programs,” she asserted. “We wouldn’t have participated in these dangerous sessions, had we been informed of their content,” she said. Another woman, who has taken part in the seminars, described them as “suspicious.” “I didn’t know that such sessions would include erroneous cultural thoughts,” she told the newspaper. Asked about the latest Houthi measures, an education official in Sanaa said that the militias are resorting to the mobilizing of female teachers to serve the Iranian plan into persuading Yemeni students with the culture of violence and hate, in addition to helping recruit fighters to Houthi battlefronts. Women militias such as the Zaynabiyat have also targeted housewives in Sanaa and other Houthi-controlled areas, urging them to take part along with their daughters in Iran-ran programs. Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, several Sanaa residents, who asked for anonymity, confirmed that the insurgents have organized several sectarian lectures, mainly in the homes of Houthi officials. The Zaynabiyat continuously harass women who fail to show up at such lectures, said the residents.
