The Sudanese Congress party, one of the main parties in the Forces for Freedom and Change, called for the launching direct dialogue with the Sudan Revolutionary Front, before the final signing of the constitutional document. The Revolutionary Front had expressed some reservations over the constitutional document that was signed recently in Khartoum. Secretary-General of the Sudanese Congress Party, Khalid Omar Yusuf, called for frank, transparent and direct dialogue between the Forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change and armed movements in the Revolutionary Front alliance in order to amend the agreement before its final signing on August 17. During a press conference in Khartoum, he said his party strongly supported the agreement signed with the Transitional Military Council, describing it as a step towards the establishment of a civil authority. The Revolutionary Front issued a statement in which it voiced its rejection of the constitutional document in “its current form because it overstepped the vision of a just peace and put obstacles to the implementation of any future peace agreement.” The Front said it would continue to work with the African mediator and the Transitional Military Council and its allies in the political forces to amend the document and political agreement to include peace issues. Separately, a leader in the Forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change said Saudi Arabia’s security was a “red line”. In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, a leader of the United Democratic Unionist Party, Mohamed Sadiq said Sudan would always stand with the Kingdom and would not allow any attempts to harm its security. “The Sudanese have a special appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reject any harm to its security and sovereignty,” he stressed.
