The Middle East News Agency (MENA) confirmed that information and investigations of the Department of Combating Illegal Immigration and Human Trafficking in the Drug and Organized Crime Combat Sector revealed four people from Alexandria were involved in forging official documents, including passports and certificates. The forged papers were used to smuggle people to European ports for 100,000 to 150,000 Egyptian pounds per person. The public prosecutor is holding the suspects for four days pending investigations. Illegal migration is a major problem for Europe. Egypt says it has been able to eradicate it following a comprehensive strategy to combat the phenomenon. No illegal migrant boat had left Egypt to Europe or anywhere since 2016, according to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Two years ago, the parliament passed a law to curb illegal immigration, following an increase in the flow of illegal migrants to Europe.
