The Sunday Times newspaper reported that Disney has signed a deal to rent most of Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, about 20 miles west of London, stepping up the turf war over Britains production talent. Among the popular movies produced in these studios is James Bond. Walt Disney Co. has signed a 10-year lease for all of the space except for a couple of TV studios, Bloomberg reported, without saying where it got the information. The size of the deal wasnt given as well, reported the German News Agency. The entertainment company has already used the facilities for films like "The Rise of Skywalker," the latest of the Star Wars saga due for release in December, and the remake of "Dumbo," directed by Tim Burton. The move comes two months after streaming competitor Netflix Inc. announced it was setting up a UK production hub at Pinewoods site in Shepperton, about 18 miles southwest of London. According to Bloomberg, Netflix, Amazon, Apple and Disney are offering thousands of hours of original programming each year through their streaming platforms, in an effort to become the number one entertainment platform.
