White House adviser Kellyanne Conway said on Sunday the US Energy Department is prepared to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve after attacks on Saudi oil facilities if needed to stabilize the global energy supply. In an interview with “Fox News Sunday,” Conway said: "We will continue to call out maligned behavior, we will continue our maximum pressure campaign in Iran." She also did not rule out a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Iran’s leader, Hassan Rouhani, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, but said the attack on the Aramco facilities “did not help” that prospect. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday blamed Iran for the attacks. Meanwhile, the European Union warned on Sunday of a "real threat to regional security" in the Middle East after the attacks in Saudi Arabia. "Yesterdays attack by drones on two Aramco oil facilities in Saudi Arabia poses a real threat to regional security," a spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said in a statement. "At a time when tensions in the region are running high, this attack undermines ongoing work at de-escalation and dialogue," she said, calling for "maximum restraint and de-escalation.”
