Saudi Arabia will host the inaugural Diriyah Tennis Cup in November. The landmark event will witness the participation of eight of the world’s top men’s players. Held between December 12 and 14, the event will take place at the Diriyah 15,000-capacity stadium that is being constructed by the General Sport Authority. World no.20 Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland, no.14 Daniel Goffin of Belgium, no.12 Fabio Fognini of Italy and no.4 Daniil Medvedev of Russia have confirmed that they will compete at the 3 million-dollar prize event. The remaining four players will be announced at a later date. Head of the General Sport Authority Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal said: “We want to contribute in achieving the goals of the sports sector, which have been defined in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, to transform the Kingdom into a destination for sports tourists from around the world.” “We hope that the announcement of the tennis cup would motivate Saudi players to invest more in the game so that they could compete at international levels in the future,” he added. Tickets for the tennis tournament will be available starting October 26. The event will be open to foreign tourists, who can obtain a tourist visa and discover Saudi Arabia. The Diriyah Tennis Cup is one of several sports events featured at the Diriyah Season festival. The festival includes the second Formula E race to be hosted by the Kingdom. It will be held on November 22-23. It also features the rematch of the boxing heavyweight championship between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua on December 7.
