Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir denied on Monday the existence of a mediation aimed at easing the tensions between Riyadh and Tehran. Speaking at a lecture in London, he stressed that it was up to Iran “to change its behavior and show good intentions in deeds, instead of words.” He accused Tehran of being behind the sabotage attack that targeted two Saudi Aramco oil facilities in September, adding: “Iran does not respect the sovereignty of nation and international law.” He hailed Aramco for quickly restoring operations at the facilities, saying it underlined the Kingdom’s commitment to secure energy supplies in the world. He also hailed the firm stance taken by most European countries and the United States in condemning Iran, adding that Tehran’s behavior now threatens international interests in the region. On Yemen, Jubeir stressed that Riyadh supports the political solution to the conflict, which is the “best solution”. Commenting on Saudi Vision 2030, he stated that the Kingdom was progressing on a comprehensive plan that will achieve its goals that are based on supporting innovation, encouraging the youth and boosting new sectors, such as tourism, marine transport and mining. The empowerment of women was at the top of these goals and Saudi women now have the right to drive and travel unaccompanied. They have also become more involved in the labor market, he remarked.
