The Yemeni legitimate government and Southern Transitional Council (STC) signed on Tuesday the Riyadh agreement to resolve their disputes. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz sponsored the agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan. Crown Prince Mohammed hailed the signing of the deal, stressing that Saudi Arabia will constantly remain keen on Yemen’s stability. The Kingdom is confident the Yemeni people’s wisdom will rise above all challenges, he stated. He also highlighted King Salman’s directives to exert all possible efforts to bridge divides between the Yemeni people. He praised Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and the STC for meeting Saudi Arabia’s call to convene in Riyadh. He also hailed the United Arab Emirates and its noble sacrifices in Yemen and in the Arab coalition. Crown Prince Mohammed vowed that Saudi Arabia will continue to seek the aspirations of the Yemeni people, help them regain their state and achieve a political solution to their conflict based on the three references. UN special envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, congratulated the two sides on the deal which he said would propel efforts to end the wider war. "The signing of this agreement is an important step for our collective efforts to advance a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Yemen," he said in a statement. "Listening to southern stakeholders is important to the political efforts to achieve peace in the country."
