Sudanese authorities are recovering the national funds that were looted from the Sudanese people who need it to rebuild their homeland, asserted Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok. He stated that everyone has the right to appeal and the judiciary decides the legality of obtaining these funds or not. Last week, both the sovereign council and government passed a law to dissolve the National Congress Party, confiscating all its property and ordering criminal proceedings against its members. Hamdok was in Washington this week where he met with US National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien. They discussed removing Sudan from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism and the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that O’Brien stressed that the United States is keen to address this issue as soon as possible, and affirmed the support of President Donald Trump for the transitional government in order to achieve sustainable democratic transformation in Sudan. Hamdok said that increasing diplomatic representation between the two countries will enhance bilateral relations, adding that the Sudanese revolution is a role model in the region. The statement pointed out that the two sides touched on the issue of the GERD, and O’Brien asserted that Trump is keen on ensuring that Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia reach consensus that serves their interests. Meanwhile, head of Sudans National Umma Party, Sadiq Al-Mahdi called on civilians and the military to confront plots against the transitional government. Speaking at a rally in Aba island, the former Prime Minister stressed that his party will stand with the government and fight any conspiracy against it, urging civilians and military personnel to cooperate to ensure the success of the transitional period. He urged Arab countries to support Sudan, calling for a joint agreement for their own benefit and for the benefit of the Sudanese people. He stated that the international community must support the peace and stability process in Sudan, which in turn will lead to stability in all the neighboring countries.
