Lieutenant General Fahd bin Turki bin Abdulaziz, Commander of the Arab Coalitions Joint Forces, received in Riyadh on Wednesday Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Yemen Martin Griffiths and his accompanying delegation. The visit is a continuation of frequent meetings and coordination with the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition under its support for the UN-led efforts to implement the Stockholm Agreement, reach a political solution and end the coup in Yemen, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Yemeni Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hadhrami also received Griffiths to discuss the developments in the war-torn country, efforts to bolster the peace process and “assess” the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement, a year since its signing. The minister reiterated to the envoy the government’s support for peace and reaching a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Yemen crisis according to the three references. The Iran-backed Houthi militias’ ongoing stalling in meeting their commitments to the Stockholm Agreement reveals their rejection of peace, he went on to say. He stressed the need to achieve tangible steps on the ground in regards to the Hodeidah agreement, demanding that the Houthis commit to withdrawing from the city and its three ports in line with the deal. Griffiths, for his part, said he is committed to his mission to achieving permanent and comprehensive peace in Yemen, saying the country needs a political solution now more than ever.
