Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said on Sunday the killing of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani marked a new phase in the history of the Middle East. Referring to the date of Soleimanis killing in a US air strike in Baghdad, Nasrallah said it was a "date separating two phases in the region ... it is the start of a new phase and new history not just for Iran or Iraq but the whole region". He was speaking at the start of a rally in the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs of Beirut to commemorate Soleimani, Reuters reported. Tehran vowed revenge after the attack, with Irans Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatening the US with "harsh retaliation." Meanwhile, Irans Supreme National Security Council denounced the killing of Soleimani and said: "The US should know that the criminal attack against Gen. Soleimani was its biggest strategic mistake in West Asia and it will not easily get away with the consequences of this miscalculation." For his part, US President Trump has warned that the US is "targeting" 52 Iranian sites and will strike "very fast and very hard" if Tehran attacks Americans or US assets.
